We Need Safe and Reliable Public Transit in Sask

Since the shutdown of the STC, people in Saskatchewan have been scrambling to find a reliable and affordable way to reach important services that they need such as shelters, medical appointments, attending classes or just visiting family.

Today Georgina Jolibois, MP Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River and I stood up in question period to hold the Liberal government accountable on providing safe and reliable public transit for people in Saskatchewan. Since the shutdown of the STC, people in Saskatchewan have been scrambling to find a reliable and affordable way to reach important services that they need such as shelters, medical appointments, attending classes or just visiting family.

I asked the lone Minister from Saskatchewan, Ralph Goodale, what he is going to do to ensure that there is a safe and affordable transportation choice for the people of Saskatchewan. I have contacted his office to request an urgent meeting.

Both Georgina and I have raised this concern on multiple occasions on behalf of people living in urban, rural and northern Saskatchewan. In January, the Minister of Innovation, Navdeep Bains said in the House of Commons that his government would look for a “meaningful” solution to this crisis. Since then, his department has held no meetings and no correspondence with the us or anyone related to the STC on this issue.

This Liberal government needs to step up for northern Saskatchewan. Public transportation is a necessary service for many in the North to see their doctors, to have surgery, or to welcome a new baby.
