Saskatoon MP not surprised by Auditor General’s Report

The Auditor General’s (AG) Fall Report has shed a light on why many Canadians are feeling frustrated with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Sheri Benson, MP (Saskatoon West) is unsurprised by its findings and has already written to the Minister of National Revenue twice this past year to express her concern for the erosion of client services at the agency.

“We have frequently heard from constituents who just can’t get through to CRA when they need assistance. And when they do get through, they can’t trust that they’re getting accurate information,” said Benson.

The AG report highlights a total mismanagement of CRA call centres. Aside from blocking over 50% of Canadians’ calls for help, the report found that agents are providing inaccurate or misleading information almost 30% of the time.

“In the absence of counter service, one might expect CRA to prioritize the management of its call centres, but that’s far from what we’re seeing. This report indicates that CRA’s latest attempt at customer service is a complete failure,” added Benson. “The report validates the many frustrations constituents have been expressing to me in Saskatoon, and I think Canadians deserve better”.
